Support that fits into your life.

Privacy, distance and cost keep people from asking for help. A consultation you can take from your own room, with someone who speaks your language, removes three obstacles at once.

What people bring

You do not need a diagnosis to start.

Most people arrive describing a situation rather than a condition. That is entirely normal and it is enough to begin.

  • Stress and burnout that is not lifting
  • Anxiety, worry or panic
  • Low mood and loss of interest
  • Sleep that has stopped working
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Relationship, family or workplace strain
  • Adjusting after illness, injury or a major change
  • Support for a family member you are worried about
Knowing what to expect helps

What a first session usually looks like

Uncertainty is itself a barrier. Here is the shape of a typical first consultation.

You talk, they listen

Most of a first session is you describing what has been happening, in your own words and at your own pace.

Some structured questions

The professional will ask about sleep, appetite, energy, history and risk — not to judge, but to understand.

A shared sense of direction

By the end you should have some idea of what might help and what a next step looks like.

No commitment to a course

You decide whether to book again. Many people find one or two sessions genuinely useful on their own.

Questions

About mental healthcare on DropDr.

Is an online session as good as in person?

For many kinds of talking therapy the evidence is that it works comparably well, and the reduced friction means people actually attend. Some situations do need to be in the room. The professional will tell you if that applies to you.

Who will I be speaking to?

That depends on what you need. Counsellors, psychologists and psychiatrists all appear on DropDr in their own categories, each with their own scope. Their category and registration are on their profile before you choose.

Is it confidential?

Yes. What you discuss is subject to the professional's confidentiality obligations, and your information is handled as special personal information under POPIA. The limits to confidentiality are the standard clinical ones, and the professional will explain them.

Can I consult in my home language?

Yes, and in this area more than most it is worth insisting on. Filter by language before you choose — see language matching.

Can I get medication for a mental health condition?

Only a professional qualified to prescribe can do so, and only where they judge it clinically appropriate after assessing you. Many people are helped without medication, and many are helped by a combination. That is a conversation, not a checkbox.

What if I am in crisis right now?

DropDr is not a crisis service and cannot respond immediately. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency provider or a crisis line right away. See emergency information.

If you are in immediate danger, DropDr is not the right route. Contact your local emergency provider or a crisis line now. DropDr consultations depend on a professional being available and cannot guarantee an immediate response. Emergency information.
